The 49ers struggle to come from behind during 3-game losing streak

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 09:45:20 GMT

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — The San Francisco 49ers showed they could thrive as front-runners during a 5-0 start to the season. Pulling out tighter games down the stretch has proved to be problematic.Brock Purdy turned the ball over three times in the final 16 minutes and San Francisco’s defense struggled to slow down Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals, leading to a 31-17 loss Sunday that was the third straight for the Niners following their dominant start to the season. “We haven’t shown that we can play from behind and come back and win a football game,” linebacker Fred Warner said. “That’s something that we’ve got to address and get better at. We can’t just be a team that can only win when we’re up.”San Francisco (5-3) didn’t face those scenarios in the first five games. It trailed only in one of those wins — Week 2 against the Rams — and never faced a deficit in the second half. But the Niners have been forced to play from behind the last three weeks to poor results...

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — The Chicago Bears went from a feel-good story to an all-too-familiar feeling. They’re back to picking themselves up from a loss after getting dominated by the Los Angeles Chargers in a 30-13 loss Sunday night. They’ll try to do just that when they visit the New Orleans Saints this week. Coach Matt Eberflus said Justin Fields will miss his third consecutive game because of a dislocated right thumb and rookie Tyson Bagent will start again in his place. Eberflus said Fields remains “week to week” but is “improving.” He wouldn’t say if Fields has started trying to grip a ball or throw it.“He’s progressing, I can just say that,” Eberflus said. “I’m not gonna get into particulars, but he is progressing. We like where it is right now.”The Bears (2-6) aren’t in a good place. They came in having won two of three games after losing 14 in a row. But the effort that carried them to victories at Washington and over the Las Vegas Raiders was not easy...

Colorado has some of the weakest rules for funeral homes Law enforcement has started identifying the remains and began notifying families that their loved ones were among the bodies — sometimes years after they were allegedly cremated and given as ashes to grieving relatives. The lawsuit accuses Return to Nature and its owners, Jon and Carie Hallford, of intentionally inflicting emotional distress, negligence, fraud and violating a number of Colorado laws, among other claims.Calls and texts sent to numbers listed for Return to Nature and owners have gone unanswered ...

Ravens coach John Harbaugh spoke with an “optimistic” Tyus Bowser last week and said the outside linebacker could be nearing a return to practice.“I can’t say it’s a guarantee,” Harbaugh said Monday. “It’s a knee that’s a little angry at times. But who knows? Maybe we’ll get Tyus back. We’ll see how that goes in the next few weeks.”Bowser has been on the non-football injury list all season. He would add depth and versatility to a position group that has held up well with Odafe Oweh, Jadeveon Clowney, Kyle Van Noy and Malik Harrison sharing snaps.Bowser declined to comment last week when several reporters approached him in the locker room to ask about his status. Bowser said on his podcast on Oct. 17 that he’s “feeling great” and “moving around very well.”In August, Harbaugh said that Bowser was dealing with an “agitated knee” but that he expected him to be back by the st...
