Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 07:36:00 GMT

(CNN) — Rivian, the electric truck and SUV company backed by Amazon, announced on Tuesday that it will join Ford and General Motors in adopting Tesla’s so-called North American Charging Standard (NACS).Rivian said it will start building its R1T pickup and R1S SUV with NACS-style charging ports starting in 2025. Its upcoming smaller models will also have the Tesla-style charging ports.By spring, 2024, Rivian owners will be able to use adapters to access Tesla’s, Supercharger network, with its roughly 12,000 fast charging stations throughout the US and Canada. While Rivian isn’t nearly as large of an automaker as GM or Ford, it’s reasonably popular among EV buyers, so the move marks a significant step for broader acceptance of the Tesla standard.Tesla’s charging system had been proprietary and only usable by Teslas, although Teslas could use industry standard Combined Charging System (CCS) chargers with an adapter. But CEO Elon Musk announced in late 2022 that he was inviting oth...

By PATRICK WHITTLE and HOLLY RAMER (Associated Press)In a race against the clock on the high seas, an expanding international armada of ships and airplanes searched Tuesday for a submersible that vanished in the North Atlantic while taking five people down to the wreck of the Titanic.U.S. Coast Guard officials said the search covered 10,000 square miles (26,000 square kilometers) but turned up no sign of the lost sub known as the Titan. Although they planned to continue looking, time was running out because the vessel had less than two days of oxygen left.“This is a very complex search, and the unified team is working around the clock,” Cpt. Jamie Frederick of the First Coast Guard District in Boston told a news conference.Frederick said the crew had about 41 hours of oxygen remaining as of midday Tuesday. Movie review: Wes Anderson’s ‘Asteroid City’ never quite comes together

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 07:36:00 GMT

Was Wes Anderson maybe … TRYING to put us to sleep? That is the recurring question in our mind as we absorbed “Asteroid City,” the acclaimed filmmaker’s latest star-packed and quirky affair, a slow, dreamlike comedy set in the 1950s and folding together the American West and Broadway.A scene late into the writer-director’s 11th film suggests Anderson at least knows we may be on the verge of sleep by then, but we’ll say no more about that specifically. On the surface, “Asteroid City” is set in the town of that name, a dot on the map in the American Southwest that’s home to 87 people, a one-pump gas station, a luncheonette, a small motor-court hotel and a telephone booth. Just outside of town resides a large meteor crater and an observatory. We quickly learn, though, that it actually is a setting created for a broadcast of a play from the Tarkington Theatre, “in an area much like New York’s Great White Way,” as the film’s production notes state.Bryan Cranston portrays the host of a broad...

The State Bar Court of California will hear testimony, including from Eastman, in a proceeding that could result in him losing his license to practice law in the state. Others who will testify include Greg Jacob, a former attorney for then-Vice President Mike Pence. NEW YORK (AP) — A fire at a New York City e-bike shop quickly spread to upper-floor apartments and killed four people early Tuesday in the latest deadly blaze linked to exploding lithium ion batteries. The fire, reported shortly after midnight, happened at a shop that was cited last summer for safety violations related to the storage and charging of batteries, officials said.
